Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching (FAQ)
Please find answers to a range of frequently asked questions below which may assist you with your understanding of coaching and our services
What’s the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Coaching is a purposeful, non-directive, outcome-driven partnership between the Coach and the Client which supports the personal and professional growth of the client.

Coaching uses a range of techniques including probing questions, reflections and feedback.

Mentoring also supports the client to reach their potential through guidance, information and support.

What’s the difference between coaching and consultancy?

While coaching is non-directive, enabling the client to think through their options and arrive at the best action for growth, consultancy is directive.

It provides the client with expert advice, analysis and tailored guidance to support their business objectives and overcome challenges.

How does coaching transform leaders from good to great?

Great leadership is not taught in a classroom. It is learnt through ongoing self-examination.

Coaching provides that valuable breathing space for leaders to reflect on their performance and to do their best thinking to solve their current challenges.

Through this unique and client-centred process, coaching enables deep and insightful reflection on their leadership performance and potential through creative and critical thinking.

Coaching increases resourcefulness, fosters greater emotional intelligence and enhances a leader’s ability to communicate with impact and presence.

These are the qualities that make a great leader.

What is ILM Level 7 in Coaching?

The ILM Level 7 in Coaching is a qualification aimed at senior leaders, HR and executives.

It is issued by the UK’s Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), a training provider of professional qualifications.

The course is regulated and approved by Ofqual, the governing body for qualifications in the UK.

The ILM Level 7 in Coaching is awarded by The City & Guilds, a respected and leading global educational institute founded by Royal Charter in 1878.

Level 7 is a Masters level of study.

How does a coaching session work?

A coaching session has a duration of 60 - 90 minutes.

The session can take place online, using Teams, or on sight.

Each session is outcome-focused.

You come to the session with a challenge you want to explore within the context of the goal and the change you want to achieve.

The coach listens, is non-judgemental, asks different types of questions, gives feedback from their observations of what and how you are presenting. It is a safe space to articulate what you are dealing with and the perfect opportunity to bring a level of honesty that might not be possible in the workplace.

You will learn how to manage your challenges through reflection, feedback and creative thinking.

Taking action on your insights is motivational. This is the power of coaching.

This is a coach who is not on the company payroll but is hired from outside on a sessional basis for the duration of a coaching contract.
