Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching (FAQ)
Please find answers to a range of frequently asked questions below which may assist you with your understanding of coaching and our services
What’s the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Coaching is a purposeful, non-directive, outcome-driven partnership between the Coach and the Client which supports the personal and professional growth of the client.

Coaching uses a range of techniques including probing questions, reflections and feedback.

Mentoring also supports the client to reach their potential through guidance, information and support.

What’s the difference between coaching and consultancy?

While coaching is non-directive, enabling the client to think through their options and arrive at the best action for growth, consultancy is directive.

It provides the client with expert advice, analysis and tailored guidance to support their business objectives and overcome challenges.

How does coaching transform leaders from good to great?

Great leadership is not taught in a classroom. It is learnt through ongoing self-examination.

Coaching provides that valuable breathing space for leaders to reflect on their performance and to do their best thinking to solve their current challenges.

Through this unique and client-centred process, coaching enables deep and insightful reflection on their leadership performance and potential through creative and critical thinking.

Coaching increases resourcefulness, fosters greater emotional intelligence and enhances a leader’s ability to communicate with impact and presence.

These are the qualities that make a great leader.

What is ILM Level 7 in Coaching?

The ILM Level 7 in Coaching is a qualification aimed at senior leaders, HR and executives.

It is issued by the UK’s Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), a training provider of professional qualifications.

The course is regulated and approved by Ofqual, the governing body for qualifications in the UK.

The ILM Level 7 in Coaching is awarded by The City & Guilds, a respected and leading global educational institute founded by Royal Charter in 1878.

Level 7 is a Masters level of study.

What is the Association for Coaching (AC)?

The Association for Coaching (AC) is a leading independent, and not-for-profit professional body dedicated to promoting best practice and raising the awareness and standards of coaching, worldwide.

The purpose is to inspire and champion coaching excellence, to advance the coaching profession and make a sustainable difference to individuals, organizations and society.

It does this through accredited coach training and offers a package of support to professional coaches through membership.

The Association for Coaching (AC) is registered in London, the UK.

What is the difference between ICF and AC accreditation?

Accreditation and credentialing are offered at different levels depending on the applicant’s level of skills and experience.

The AC and ICF schemes are similar, but approaches and requirements differ slightly.

Our Policies

Coaching, which is not directive advice, counselling, or therapy, may address overall goals, specific projects, or general conditions in the CLIENT's life or profession.

Coaching services may include setting priorities, establishing goals, identifying resources, brainstorming, creating action plans, asking clarifying questions, and providing models, examples, and in-the-moment skills training.

The clients understand that the coaching that is being provided does not substitute for counseling, psychotherapy or any mental health services. The coachees confirm that they are not under the care of a mental health professional. If they are under the care of a mental health professional, they have discussed their entering into this Coaching with their mental health professional and we have agreed it would be suitable.

If requested, the coachees will provide a letter of agreement from their mental health care professional.

The parties understand that coaching is designed to facilitate the creation and development of personal, professional or business goals and to develop and carry out strategies and plans for achieving those goals.

The focus of coaching is development and implementation of strategies to reach client-identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction. Coaching may address specific personal projects, life balance, job performance and satisfaction, or general conditions in the client’s life, business, or profession. Coaching utilizes personal strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, motivational and other similar techniques.

The clients understand that coaching is not to be used in lieu of professional advice. They will seek professional guidance for legal, medical, financial, business, spiritual or other matters.
